Optical drives invisible

Permalink 11:35:57 am by Eugene Gardner, Categories: General

With XP and Vista it is possible to get a situation where none of the optical drives are visible to Windows or are visible but unusable with a code 39 error (corrupted or missing driver).

The solution is to make a System Restore Point then from within Regedit visit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\
Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
and delete both LowerFilters and UpperFilters
Then within Device Manager uninstall each optical drive then reboot.
