Laptop or Notebook handling tips

Permalink 11:47:03 am by Eugene Gardner, Categories: General, Articles, Technical Tips

Based on the faults I see coming through my workshop, here are some suggestions to minimise repair bills.

  • Open/close the lid holding the centre of the display or with a hand on each corner.
  • Yanking the power cable by tripping over it overstrains the power socket.
  • Use mains power whenever possible.
  • Keep food and drinks more than a metre away from the keyboard.
  • Shut down fully each day rather than closing the lid and putting it to sleep.
  • Make sure the outlet air vent is unobstructed.
  • Make sure the inlet air vent can not suck up carpet dust or linen lint.
  • Don't press the power on/off button too hard.
  • Follow Eugene's housekeeping schedule periodically.
